Duncanville City Council Agenda 16Sept2018 Item 1 of 4

MEETING: City Council – September 18, 2018

TITLE: Consider approval of a Resolution approving the terms and conditions of Amendment No. 1 to the Dallas County Dallas Area Household Hazardous Waste Network Interlocal Agreement to coordinate the planning and implementation of a Hazardous Waste Collection Program for October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019, for a cost not to exceed $66,346.00.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY: The City of Duncanville has participated in the Dallas County Household Hazardous Waste Network since 1994. The goal of the hazardous waste program is to eliminate household waste from landfills and storm water discharges. Our participation in this program allows Duncanville residents to utilize the Home Chemical Collection Center located at 11232-11234 Plano Road in Dallas. It also allows our participation in the spring and fall annual community collection events at the Southwest Center Mall Sears parking lot in Dallas during the fall collection event, and the Duncanville High School softball parking lot in the spring collection event.

POLICY EXPLANATION: On September 5, 2017, a resolution was approved authorizing the City Manager to enter into an Interlocal Agreement with Dallas County to coordinate and implement a household hazardous waste program. This Interlocal agreement allowed for up to four additional one-year term renewals. This renews our participation in the program for the coming fiscal year, October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019.

FUNDING SOURCE: $66,346.00 is allocated in the FY18-19 Solid Waste Budget for this expenditure. This is a slight increase over the FY 17-18 amount of $59,619.00.

COUNCIL ACTION:  Approved by Council.  None Opposed.
